Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024 list features only one rapper, 21 Savage, who is based in the US but hails from Britain.

Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, paid tribute to Savage on the website of Time magazine.

According to Burna, the British rapper takes a “refreshingly genuine” and “authentic” approach to rap.

Like 21 [Savage], I know the feeling of overcoming difficult beginnings, and that only adds to the awe-inspiring nature of his achievement,” he added. His most recent album, American Dream, begins with a perspective from his mother on their immigrant story—just one example of the genuineness that permeates all of 21’s work and makes it so impactful.

While deftly navigating the genre’s intricacies, his approach to rap is genuinely refreshing. He communicates to us in a way that we can relate to. His delivery is captivating regardless of whether he discusses serious topics or provides lighter moments.

As Burna Boy put it, “performing with him at the Grammys” was “one of my most significant milestones with 21.”

“I can’t wait to see how his art develops further and the difference he makes on a global scale,” he continued.

In its annual 100 Most Influential People list, Time Magazine recognizes those who have changed the world via their writing, activism, or cultural contributions.
