Kaduna Internal Revenue Service Executive Chairman Mr. Jerry Adams has stated that the agency’s goal is to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
According to him, the agency is hell-bent on fixing the state’s salary payment problems.
At a dinner hosted by Amina Bello, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Students Affairs, on Wednesday, Adams informed student leaders that the agency is collaborating with important parties and has directed their employees and MDAs to strive for a future in which the state is independent of federal funding.
“It is now our responsibility to increase IGR so that the government can fund the important projects we want, in addition to paying salaries,” he said.
He urged the people of Kaduna State to work together and back government programs so that the state would triumph over its difficulties.
At the same time, Ummar Waziri, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kaduna State, who was present at the occasion, stated that the government is working to improve the welfare of teachers and students in order to encourage high-quality education.
The objective of the engagement, according to Ummar, was to encourage students and the government to understand each other better, which in turn would promote harmony and cooperation among various social groups.
Recent remarks by state governor Uba Sani expressed frustration that the government is unable to go forward with new or abandoned projects because of the need to repay both foreign and domestic debts accrued by earlier administrations.
