The Yobe State Government has approved the building of three weather stations to help combat the consequences of climate change.
Abdullahi Bego, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, announced this while briefing reporters on the outcome of Thursday’s State Executive Council meeting.
“The Council also approved the establishment of three weather stations in Damaturu, Machina and Gulani LGAs to help with climate and agricultural issues at the cost of N189.9 million,” Bego said in a press release.
On health, the commissioner stated that the Local Government Area Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge was established with the goal of enhancing primary health care at the grassroots level.
“The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge was established and is managed by UNICEF, with financing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and oversight from the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
“The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge is just one of 12 indicators for an award that could come to the state among all the 36 states of the federation if LGAs adhere to specific activity indicators aimed at improving Primary Health Care at the grassroots level” , added the official.
According to the Information Commissioner, the Council also approved the recommendation to grant monetary awards to the best performing local governments at both the zonal and state levels.
The State Deputy Governor presided over the first State Executive Council meeting of 2024.
