Tennis player Rafael Nadal has stated that he would not compete in the upcoming Monte-Carlo Masters owing to chronic physical concerns.
Nadal has been working on his fitness in Mallorca after taking a year off from the sport, but his return in January was short-lived, since his body was unable to withstand the rigours of professional tennis.
The 37-year-old has won the Monte-Carlo Masters 11 times, but his pursuit for a 15th French Open championship appears to be in risk if he does not get his body back in condition soon.
Nadal voiced his disappointment in a message posted on social media on Thursday, noting the gravity of the situation.
“These are very difficult moments for me, sporting wise,” Nadal said in part.
“Unfortunately, I will not be playing in Monte Carlo. My body just won’t let me.”
