On Monday, an ally of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and APC chieftain, Senator Suleiman Makanjuola Ajadi, filed a defamation lawsuit against Islamic cleric Sheik Abdulrazaq Solihudeen Aremoh, but the Upper Area Court in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, declined to arraign him.

During one of the Islamic cleric’s sermons, Ajadi had filed a direct criminal complaint against him because of his criticism of state government practices, especially the purported witch-hunting of opposition members in the state.

The court declined to hear the matter and instead encouraged the disputing parties to try to work out their differences peacefully in the spirit of Ramadan.

Other Islamic scholars who were ashamed by the news rallied around Sheik Absulrazaq Solihudeen Aremoh.

They came out in droves to show their support for the cleric at court.

Furthermore, young people from all throughout the state spoke out against the development, calling it a threat to democracy.

Additionally, the court has scheduled a report of resolution or arraignment for May 29, 2024.
